Dr Maria’s Approach

Dr Maria’s Approach to Cosmetic Gynaecology

Most cosmetic gynaecology practices offer a procedure list. Dr Maria offers something different — a clinical framework built around the individual patient, delivered by a surgeon who has spent 15 years operating at the highest level of the specialty.

She is not a plastic surgeon who has added intimate procedures to a broader menu. She is a specialist gynaecologist — European Board-certified, ESAG Vice President — for whom cosmetic and functional intimate surgery is the entirety of her surgical practice. The distinction matters when the anatomy involved is this precise and the margin for error is this narrow.

Every procedure Dr Maria performs begins with a consultation that takes as long as it needs to. She assesses your individual anatomy. She understands your specific concern — functional, aesthetic, or both. She advises you honestly on whether surgery is the right solution, and if so, which technique will give you the best outcome for your case. She will tell you if the answer is not surgery. That is part of the standard of care she provides.

She operates at Bader Medical Institute, 75 Harley Street — the clinic she co-founded — where the full surgical team has over 20 years experience & European Board Certified Doctor. Full procedure detail, including before and after results, is available on the clinic’s website.

She has been performing these procedures for 15 years. She trains other surgeons in these techniques. And she is one of a small number of female specialists in the UK operating at this level of the profession.

Each procedure below links to the full clinical detail page on badermedical.com, where you can read about technique, recovery, before and after results, and pricing. Dr Maria performs all procedures listed below at Bader Medical Institute as the lead female surgeon.

Labiaplasty

Surgical reshaping or reduction of the labia minora or labia majora. Sought for physical discomfort, aesthetic concerns, or changes following childbirth. Dr Maria performs both trimming and wedge resection techniques, selected on individual anatomical grounds — not defaulted to. No two labiaplasties she performs follow the same plan.

Clitoral Hoodectomy

Removal of excess prepuce tissue surrounding the clitoris — performed for comfort, aesthetics, improved sensation, or as part of a combined procedure with labiaplasty. One of the most technically demanding procedures in cosmetic gynaecology. Dr Maria’s role in training other surgeons in this technique is not incidental to why patients seek her for it specifically.

Full procedure detail

Vaginoplasty

Surgical tightening of the vaginal canal and surrounding musculature — most commonly following childbirth or hormonal changes. Dr Maria approaches vaginoplasty as a functional restoration, not a cosmetic procedure with a standard outcome. She assesses the degree of laxity, the underlying cause, and the patient’s goals before advising on surgical versus non-surgical intervention.

Full procedure detail

Perineoplasty

Repair and reconstruction of the perineum — the area between the vaginal opening and the anus — which can become stretched, scarred, or functionally altered following delivery. Frequently performed alongside vaginoplasty for a comprehensive functional and aesthetic result, or as a standalone procedure where the perineal concern is primary.

Labia Majora Enhancement & Lifting

Restoration of volume and contour to the labia majora, which can deflate or lose elasticity with age, weight loss, or hormonal change. Performed using fat transfer or filler, depending on the degree of change and the patient’s preference. Dr Maria assesses which approach is appropriate for your anatomy at consultation.

I think it matters exactly as much as the patient says it does. That is the complete answer.

In practice, I have seen what happens when a woman who wanted a female surgeon was persuaded that it was not really important. She managed the consultation. She managed the procedure. She did not manage the recovery as well as she might have, because at every stage she was carrying something extra: a low-level discomfort with the situation that used up energy she needed for healing.

Intimate surgery involves an examination of the most private anatomy a woman has, a frank conversation about how she feels about her body, and a recovery period in which she will need to communicate clearly about her symptoms. All of those things are measurably easier for many women when the consultant or the surgeon is female. That is not sentiment. It is clinical reality.

I do not think a surgeon’s gender is a substitute for their skill. I think it is, for a significant proportion of patients, an additional factor that affects the quality of the care they receive, because it affects whether they communicate fully, whether they feel safe in the room, and whether they trust the process. All of which affect outcomes.

Revision labiaplasty is the surgical correction of a previous labiaplasty result that did not achieve the intended outcome — whether due to over-resection, under-resection, asymmetry, scarring, or a complication in the healing process.

It is one of the more complex presentations in cosmetic gynaecology, because the anatomy has already been altered. The tissue quality, the remaining volume, and the healing patterns are all different from a primary procedure. Revision requires a different level of surgical planning and a more conservative approach to what is achievable.

The cases I see most often involve over-resection — too much tissue removed, producing a result that is uncomfortable, functionally limiting, or aesthetically distressing. In some of these cases, reconstruction using local flaps or fat transfer can restore volume and function. In others, the correction is primarily about scar revision and symmetry.

If you are seeking revision surgery, the most important thing I would tell you is: allow sufficient time. Operating on a site that has not fully healed from the original procedure introduces risk. I typically advise waiting at least 6–12 months from the primary procedure before revision — and I will tell you clearly at consultation what is achievable, what the risks are, and whether the timing is right.
